this is a total dive, used to be a gay hispanic bar and still has a poster of a latino man with his back turned holding a flower behind his back. there are two pool tables and they are usually crowded and you put a coin down to symbolize you are in line at that table. put the coin on the perimeter of the table. a shot of jim beam is $4.50 and beers are cheaper but who drinks beer anyway? the crowd is, or was, 100% hipster and i know all you hipsters totally hate each other and stuff but really the first step is to realize that you, yes you, are in fact, a hipster, especially if you're reading this and you live in or near echo park, silverlake or highland park and maybe eagle rock. its easy just let go and look at yourself in the mirror. ok, that wasn't so hard . . . so now you've admitted to being a hipster of some sort or another and you can go on with your life now but with a little more love for your fellow hipster. after all its not that bad being one, i mean if tom waits is, it can't be that bad right? but back to the little joy, i was there last saturday and it was as if the usual fresh from the sewer dirty hipster crowd had suddenly vanished and the entire crowd from the shortstop, another bar, formerly a cop bar turned hipster then toolster located like 50 yards up sunset, was somehow transplanted into the little joy. i guess the true hipsters have moved on. man, you gotta like, be quick and on top around these parts or esle your not a real hipster. god all that to realize you're not even good at being a hipster. lifes tough being an artsy person. - sasha , posted 09/01/04 |
