A declicious nightmare
I'm not an expert on this genre, but I really do appreciate a well-done horror movie. This one is it. All of the characters have believable reactions to what's going on and it's very immersive with enough psychological twists to keep you guessing.

The only horror film that topped this was the latest release of "Dawn of the Dead". - Smasharolla , posted 08/25/05

A new Horror classic
Some people fault the second half of this film, but I think it's far more terrfiying and unsettling than the now familiar tableau of flesh eating zombies run amok. Though in the British Zombie sweepstakes this is a distant second to the impeccable Shaun of the Dead, the atmospherics and innovations Boyle brings to the genre are deliciously unsettling, and are to be credited to inspiring the equally excellent Dawn of the Dead remake. The science of the virus is a bit dodgy to me, but it's a plot device and to me the real monster in the film is Christopher Eccleston's psychotic military commander. The implications of his agenda are made all the more terrifying given the flirting with Apocalypse mindset of our real-life warlords. - Chris , posted 07/16/05

A Fresher Take on a favorite genre.
Taking a few ideas from the zombie genre and approaching it from another direction, this film managed to keep me entertained all the way through with fresh scenarios and ideas. Rather then being only about horror, this movie opens on a creepy note but delves deeper then most horror movies dare into the minds and feelings of all characters involved.

The horror buff side of me was slightly dissappointed. I was never tense enough to start scooting to the end of my seat, nor did I have to wince at any particularily gory scenes.
However, the apreciator of film enjoyed what was delivered. I applauded the director's choice to focus a little more on humanity and a little less on shock factor. I found some of the shots to be quite spectacular as well, truly creating the illussion of a city gone to chaos.

While many opinions seem to differ from mine, I feel my ideas are warranted by the fact that I do watch quite a bit of horror. Out of the slew of crappy slasher flicks and remakes we're receiving lately, I was pleased to find a fresh european take on the "infection genre" which seems to have ultimately been a part of breathing a bit of life back into my favorite form of film. Horror. I don't feel this can be denied, as I've noticed an increase in horror releases since this movie finished in theatres. EIther way, that's my two cents :P - Unsubscribed , posted 06/10/05

NOW
28 Days Later is one of those textbook movies proving you can shock and scare an audience without resorting to lopping off heads or limbs, and that the camera can be as lethal a weapon as any automatic firearm, sword or machete.
