ATT Sucks - Poor Coverage, Phone Operators Gave Bad Information
I was a happy AT&T customer for many years. Then I 'upgraded' my phone and lit just went downhill from there. On the GSM network there were holes in the coverage where the older TDMA network had good coverage. When I called customer service to ask about it they said there was no reason why there should be a difference.

Payments I made did not get posted to my account. Then they would send me refund checks for "excess payments". I am still getting collection letters on money I paid several months ago.

In short - my experience with AT&T was the worst I have ever had with a major corporation. - ThirdNormal , posted 04/24/05

AT&T GSM service is poor
I use AT&T and I find that it is just ok. I have had good success because I am on their older network and have not migrated over to their GSM system. I have heard horror stories about it though. - Chris , posted 08/27/04

You can keep your AT&T phone, but go GSM
It's fully possible to stay with AT&T and get a GSM phone.. they have some great deals if you switch onto thier GSM network. The one thing to keep an eye on, with AT&T as well as with any of the other carriers, is if they lock their phones. Almost all Nokias can be unlocked with tools you can find online, but that's not so true for other brands. If you get on GSM with a locked phone, you're equally screwed when you travel to europe, as no local GSM chip will work. - kris , posted 08/16/04
