"Starlight" Illuminates The Night
Currently available only by downloading from a few internet music sites, Stuart Dummit's new album "Starlight and Darkness" is an illuminating work of mindfulness and beauty. Basically an instrumental suite in seven parts, this keyboard-less collection is as much a tone-poem that paints images of the mystery of the evening as it is a vehicle for meditation and introspection. Using only guitars and guitar controlled synthesizers, Dummit uses clusters of bell-like tones, subtle rhythms, unique string washes and haunting harmonies that morph into surprising melodies that transport the listener from the fading light of the gloaming dusk to the fall of night where the stars create a web of transdimensional sound and then into a pulsing dreamworld that ultimately surrenders to the return of daylight.
Standout tracks include "Nightfall," "Starlight," "Shenandoah (Daughter of the Stars)" and the 23 minute "Fluid Metal." Although each song or movement can be appreciated on its own, the true beauty of this work reveals itself when taken as a whole. Available for download from iTunes, eMusic and Rhapsody, some individual tracks can be downloaded from the artist's MySpace page: www.myspace.com/stuartdummit
