virgil vogel was the first european to compile the herbal wisdom of the indigeneous peoples of north america. it was his lifes work it has a fantastic cross referenced bibliographic index. it was first published long before computers. the university did the index by hand which was the thing that made it truly a functional work. i can only imagine what recent copies have. mine is a first edition 1970. well used.
