I just switched and I love Cingular
Despite the negative reviews folk have given, I haven't had any problems with Cingular. Their customer service is ok, I guess. But customer service is appallingly bad everywhere, so that's a positive endorsement. I haven't had any problems, let's put it that way.

I've had very few troubles with dropped calls. Far fewer than my previous carrier. At least now I can actually get calls in my bedroom, in the middle of my building, rather than having to stand on the back porch and lean to find a good signal, like I'd used to. I can even get calls in the subway stations - gotta love that.

My whole family is on a plan so we can call each other without using our 1,400 minutes, which we can roll over, at a very reasonable per month charge, $10 additional over the base rate per month for each phone - and after rebates the phones were free.

I'd say my only issue has been with their choices of equipment. Unless I pay top dollar I wasn't able to find a decent phone with standard capabilities that actually lived up to their hype. So I had to settle for a less capable phone to see what they roll in later. I'll be so glad when this POS Razor phase is over. Then again, American companies are so woefully behind in this market I can't say that other carriers are much different unless they cater specifically to the high end of the market.

But all told I'd say it's been a good experience. - Unsubscribed , posted 03/09/07

drops calls, network is often busy - can not handle the calls even if the signal is at 5 bars!
Yes, they use the 850Mhz frequency, but the number of cell towers is small even in very densely populated areas and the technology is too old. The result is that their network simply can not handle the number of users that want to use it. My calls are often dropped and the sound quality on the Razr V3 is often very poor because the network is simply overloaded and overcrowded with too many people using it. "Call failed - network busy" - this is what you get when you try using a Cingular phone around rush hours. I complained about this many times with no improvement in the service. I will go with T-mobile as soon as my contract with Cingular ends. - Art , posted 12/30/06

Worst cell phone service in the world
You would think that living in D.C. and having cingular wireless service would be the perfect combo for always having cell phone service and never having dropped calls... think again. Not only does cingular wireless ALWAYS drop my calls, I can't even get above 3 bars, let alone 1, in the city. I want the old AT&T back. Since that's not possible, I am switching to Verizon, and I suggest you should do the same too. - Kevin Frank , posted 07/04/06

Don't go to T-Mobile
They only use the 1900 frequency which is the weakest of the 4 used around the world. It gets low penetration in buildings and cars, thus reducing sound quality and increassing your dropped call rate. You should be used to this if you use sprint who only uses 1900 as well.
Cingular is the way to go if you want to avoid that. - Unsubscribed , posted 12/22/05

T-Mobile is good only if...
You like only using the 1900 frequency. For those of you who don't know the 1900 frequency is the weakest of the 2 that wireless carriers use in this country or anywhere in the world. 850 which is what Cingular relies on mostly gets better penetration in buildings and in automobiles. T-mobile only has access to 1900 which will give you less coverage and more dropped calls. So if you want lots of dropped calls go right ahead. Cingular which is not overrated uses both 850 and 1900 for better coverage. Not only that but Cingular has better phones. Unless you want the Sidekick II Cingular is your best bet.
As for phone service for real people like Mrs. Micheal Douglas she does not even use T-Mobile, funny enough she uses o2 when in Europe and abroad. - Nice Season Raide... , posted 12/22/05

Cingular is Tip Top!!!
Cingular is the best in every category. They have the largest voice and data network in the country. This is thanks to the merger with AT&T. Now that they are instituting UMTS they will have 3G phones and faster data capabilities. Also they will be decreasing their dropped call rate well below that of Verizon.
Verizon's claim of having the "most relaiable Network" is based on how Cingular used to stink in regards to coverage before their merger with AT&T.
Cingular is also the best because they use GSM which is a world standard that 72% of the world uses. This not only means you can use your handset abroad unlike with Sprint and Verizon. Also since most phone makers are geared to make more phones for the majority of consumers, and since there are more phone companies use GSM, GSM carriers win out in the cool phone dept.
To carry on in this vein, GSM is more energy effecient. Just compare most GSM phones to CDMA phones. For example look at the RAZR from Cingular compared to the RAZR from Verizon. Cingular's has the advantage with 7 hrs of talk time versus 3.
I think the choice is clear, Cingular is the best!!! - Unsubscribed , posted 12/22/05
