Face the Facts...The Tech Support Industry is Going Overseas
Convergys leads the nation in shipping high-skilled, high-pay jobs to countries like India and the Philippines.
By some estimates, over 400,000 jobs have been lost in the U.S. within the past 3 years and the trend continues to grow at an astounding pace. Although this is said to be driven by economic factors, the end-user customers are 97% in agreement that they would prefer to speak to someone whose native language is English. The Business Process Outsourcing or BPO wave continues to cause customer dissatisfaction and the angry backlash is difficult to avoid by foreign call center employees. Nevertheless the demand for more English-speaking "talent" is high and BPO companies are combing small towns all over India looking for employees to fill the positions. Convergys, as the biggest of all outsourcing firms, plans to put tens of thousands of people in India to work in their call center. Does this translate into tens of thousands of people in the United States losing their jobs? You be the judge...
