Being a Demi-God
In the realm of High Fantasy RPGs There are a lot of choices. D&D, Gama World, Role-Master, Elric, etc. etc. But In the past year I have been fortunate to become familiar with Exalted. Published by White-Wolf Games, Exalted is a game where you play the part of a person who has been exalted (thus the name) by a soul fragment from one of the Gods of Creation. Exaltation brings with it power, near immortality, and titanic struggles with the enemies of creation and with some of the Exalted of other Dieties.
The game has a richly and complexly developed system of magics, combat, martial-arts, and social interaction rules and the History of Creation is well developed. There are so many ways to develop character, plot, and theme that it is quite easy to keep the play fresh and interesting (even with a game master as predictable and stodgy as myself).
The only fault with the game sis White-Wolf's unfortunate tendency to be poorly proof-read and even more poorly indexed. The game is excellent--but at times it is difficult to find the exact rules one is looking for, for a given situation. In my opinion this is the only thing which prevents Exalted from being rated as a 5.
