Granada is great
Lucky you. I studied for a year in Granada just out of college. One of the best years of my life. It is a wonderful place, one of my all time favorites but not without it's downside like anywhere. I think it is particularly fun for young people as it is home to a major University and thus has an element of crazed drunken debauchery. Fun if you're 18 but easy to avoid otherwise, simply walk to another neighborhood. Southern Spain was much cheaper than the rest of the country when I was there (1994) and often tapas are free!!
One great way to find an apartment is to look at paper postings on walls and bulletin boards in the university areas. Their university system is not as campus-centric as ours. There are branches or facultades for each academic department scattered throughout the city. I would recommend looking at the Filologia dept. (language school to find foreign language friendly roomates) or art dept. for your husband to find friends in the art community. Although by now this could all be online? Also recommend the old town for its beauty.
There is a lot of wonderful music to be found in bars, and other nooks and crannies. I think you'll enjoy being there. Also I recommend getting what's called an "intercambio" or a language exchange partner to find a patient partner to practice language skills if you're not already fluent. (also posted in language schools). Let me know if you have any questions.
