Well-researched, thorough, fun read.
History was never one of my best subjects, but this book puts history into terms I like. Diamond takes evidence from all sorts of disciplines to piece together the history of human presence on the continents and the subsequent development - or lack thereof - of technology and societal structure all over the world. I thought it was a very cool book, full of lots of tidbits that you can throw out at pubs and parties to impress people. - Susan , posted 09/08/05
***oo
Hard to judge
Much of this book seemed obvious… but maybe it is just the time of thing that just seems self evident after someone else has pointed it out. I read it some time ago but the impression that remains with me is that it is the type of book that seemed like it could have accomplished the same point in half the number of pages. - Bingo , posted 07/22/04

A book I actually kept (I give everything away)
It's about why some societies are more "advanced" than others and completely debunks the whole "well we work harder..." "our culture is superior" kinda reasoning.

First published in 1997...it's got some really interesting stuff in it.

Writer is Jared Diamond.
