one of the all-time greats!
it's not directed by kubrick as stated elsewhere in these reviews, but it is one of the all-time best movies. my dad turned me on to it as a teenager. he was a weird dad, i was a weird kid and he felt it would be my speed. it totally was. i loved it! i've seen it maybe half a dozen times over the years and enjoy the hell out of it. it used to play in st louis at our local "cult' movie theater along with repo man, eraserhead, king of hearts and a bunch of other oddball flicks... with rocky horror being the theater's saturday night midnight movie mainstay...

anywayz, can't recommend it highly enough. if you like weird but heartfelt, this one's a gem!

the soundtrack fits it perfectly too and has some of the most uplifting cat stevens moments in the man's career. if you don't like uplifting cat stevens moments, you may reconsider that opinion seeing how much they work with this flick. - Shady , posted 04/12/08

A must See
Stanley Kubrick Directed this genius movie!!!
Harold obsesses with death and meets Maude at a funeral.(They both frequent funerals)
They get to know each other and Harold falls in love with Maude, who is 80 to his young 20's.
They have many adventures together and learn much from each other.
Splendid......be prepared to cry.

Not your average May/December Romance!
What can you say about Ruth Gordon and Bud Cort?

This is a classic 1970's black comedy about a young man who falls in love with a woman old enough to be his grandmother! The thing I love most about this film is the underlying humor that tells us we CAN all relate, no matter the age, no matter the sex!

This movie wipes out all misconceptions about the "generation gaps" that we've all seen and possibly experienced ourselves at one time or another. Bud Cort is a wonderfully delightful morbid young man named Harold trying to find himself in the middle of the sexual revolution. He comes from a repressed family life, has a domineering mother and how many guys do you know that would turn their classic jaguar into a mini-hearse? Ruth Gordon in one of her best performances ever, plays Maude, a woman escaping from a nursing home in a last stroke of independence when she meets young Harold. The adventures that they take together will make your sides ache with laughter.

I highly recommend this movie to anyone looking for a love story or a comedy. You'll get both here! - Alley , posted 08/27/04
