I've had some success staying at hotels just outside of Chicago
I've had some success staying at hotels just outside of Chicago like Arlington Heights, Rosemont, River Grove - then driving to the Cumberland exit, leaving the car at the Park & Ride garage, and taking the subway in. It adds about 60-90 minutes commute time each way, but it's a lot cheaper and less stressful than staying/driving in downtown Chicago. The website for Chicago's transit system is below.
