This is a wonderful weekend destination
especially in the fall...

Go for the pie, or camp nearby... and then hit the Callaway Winery in Temecula for sparkling wine ...

****o
a great weekend getaway
This tiny town in the middle of rural San Diego county is surrounded by acres of apple orchards, and as a result has the most amazing apple pies you'll ever taste. Every restaurant has their own award-winning recipes, each one better than the last. September and October are harvest months, and the whole town smells like fresh-baked apple pie. There are also farm stands everywhere, selling every kind of fruit spreads imaginable, 100 different kinds of honey, and other homemade goodies. Besides all this, Julian is a gold-rush mining town, so there's plenty to enjoy, and for a "middle-of-nowhere" town, it gets surprizingly crowded with visitors. It's located about 40 minutes east of the San Diego Zoo's Wild Animal Park, so combine both things to make for a fun weekend! - Anna , posted 09/09/04
