Philosophy of Music Education
I believe that today’s society requires school. Schooling provides the opportunity for students to develop thinking skills and a foundation for prosperity. By addressing basic skills of thinking, students learn how to comprehend themselves as a human being in society. Comprehension, an application of lessons learned from mistakes, situations and teachings, is one of the most valuable skills one can learn. Through a variety of courses curricularly founded upon student comprehension, teachers have the responsibility of guiding students’ understandings through active application of knowledge. School is a place for success through comprehension and active application of knowledge.
Many people assume that music is there simply for entertainment. I feel this is a tragedy for all who wish to learn or express themselves in any way. Through music education, students learn to emotionally express themselves. Practice and performance provide a chance for the student to comprehend the work ethic needed to succeed in life. In addition, the students enhance familiarity with self-achievement. This is all in addition to music’s unmatched aesthetic value and sensitivity. A student that learns how to express himself or herself will become more open-minded and accepting of others. This naturally leads to a better human prepared and hungry for success. It is essential that students learn at least the basics of music. Every person has a desire for self-expression, which longs to be acted out through an art form. If the students do not know the three main forms, music, dance and art, he or she may not find how he/she best expresses. This will leave a void in the individual’s life. Music is essential in developing a young person into the best human he or she can become.
