If I ever come into an enormous sum of money, or at least more than I need after helping out myself and loved ones... I have decided that I will most certainly give large sums to the Los Angeles Public Library System. By far, they have one of the best public library systems I have ever seen and its mostly due to their website. Gone are the days of scouring the shelves trying to find the book you need, only to realize its been checked out or unavailable. With their system you can sit at home and go through the entire catalogue of not only your branch but ALL BRANCHES! You can request the book you want, and they will send it from any branch to the branch of your choice, and call you when it arrives. You can also create a reading list online, which is helpful instead of having a million scraps of titles lying around your desk like I used to. Also, on the rare occasion that they do not have the book you are wanting, you can email a librarian and request it. I have done this 3 times and each time my email is responded to within a week, and the book is placed on their shelves (sometimes that takes a few months, but its worth it!). yay, LAPL! - Courtney , posted 09/04/04 |
