MAKOTO KUBOTA biography dated July 2005 In 1970 during his univercity time at Doshisha in Kyoto He joined legendary Hadaka No Rallies(Les Rallizes Dnudes),the cult following noise band that has many followers up till now. His 1 st solo album was introduced by Toshiba Express label in 73, and in 74 he released his first band album named Sunset Gang which is famous for its Godzilla cover and this became the classic rock album and re-released several times since. In 75 his group opened Eric Clapton's first Japanese national tour. And the group performed many live performances and recorded 6 albums by 1979. The band covered Haisai Ojisan written by Okinawa's Shokichi Kina and this lead to the large introduction of Okinawan music to main land Japan. Kubota also recorded Kina's Bloodline album as an arranger and a co-producer. Ry Cooder recorded the few guitar tracks In this album. The band got the 80's modifications and started calling themselves the SUNSETZ and thoughout the 80s the they kept touring and performing worldwide, opening the bands like Talking Heads, Eurhythmics, INXS , Japan and even Sun Ra at the festivals and stadiums in Europe Australia, Netherlands, Jamaica, North America, Thailand and in their home land Japan. In 1990 Kubota became a full time record producer and started introducing his recordings constantly. Some of his productions are the albums by Blu Asia,The Boom, Monday Michiru, Dick Lee and many other Asian artists. Kopi Dangdut, which is the Indonesian cover version of Moliendo Cafe achieved a million seller. His comeback as a singer-songwriter was made by the unit team named Harry & Mac with Haruomi Hosono (Yellow Magic Orchestra fame) in 99 and in 2000 his solo album, On The Border was recorded in Woodstock and Louisiana including the sessions with the likes of Levon Helm and Garth Hudson of The Band. He also participated in the album recording and live tour of TINPAN which was Hosono's massive reunion project . And in 2001 Blue Asia project which combined world music with lounge feel was started with Malaysia's arranger/ producer team, Mac & Jenny. And Blue Asia recorded 5 albums. And some songs has been featured in the various compilation albums and introduced worldwide. Putumayo's WORLD LOUNGE, which contains a Kubota's song introduced the sound of Blue Asia worldwide. 2004 found many of his production including EMI's Asian Muse, the album for Nike Women, Motown tribute album and so on. Hotel Vietnam became one of top 5 cds in World Music chart in Europe for 3 months. www.wmce.de/index_4368.html In 2005 Blue Asia releaced Hotel Bangkok and Kubota releaced Hawaiian influenced KAUAI March-05. His love to Brazilian music made him compiled the album called Nordeste Atomico, this centuries premier introduction of Nordeste music after David Byrne's Brazil Classics 3 in 1991.
