Great Show
I'll just give the basic differences between Bear and Survivor Man.

Survivor Man is dropped somewhere. His only goal is to stay alive for like 5-7 days. All he does is show you how to pick a place for camp, make a shelter, what to eat, and how to catch food. But again, all he does is sit there and "survive." He makes no attempt to get out of his situation. He does do his own camera work, but it is not too hard when you don't go anywhere.

Bear, on the other hand, teaches you how to get out. His goal is to get out within 7 days. If you are lost in the Alps, desert, jungle, etc., you won't have time to wait for people to come save you. In these situations you will have to learn survival skills not only to stay alive, but to make it back to civilization. Does Bear have a camera crew, yes. But they do not have any contact with him. They do not help him at all, and they sleep in a different place than him. Bear is actually moving trying to get out, so it would be near impossible for him to be his own camera man.

Bear does take a lot of risks. But again, he is not just sitting on his butt surviving, he is trying to get out. Therefore, he shows you things you can do to get out.

If you want to learn how to make a shelter, start a fire, and recognize which berries you can eat, then read a book. If you want to watch an exciting, entertaining show about a guy that makes it out of crazy places, then watch Man vs. Wild. - Adam , posted 07/13/07

Ridiculous
Ok..Bear Grillz is ridiculous, i have been making fun of him since I saw his first episode. The man is overly dramatic, he's in the wild for 3 hours and he's killing every animal he can get his hands on, saying things like "this stop me from starving to death." 3 hours!!!, ridiculous. He also gives some silly impractical, vague advice. For example..I've seen an episode where he shimmies up a massive slick rock wall, and climbed up a straight tree. There's no doubt the man knows how to survive, but, the whole show is just one big "look what I can do!" Do your self a favor, and like someone else said before, watch survivor man. Les Stroud is brilliant, likeable, and will eat what ever he has to to survive, not to have a banquet, or because "that critter will be yummy." Les >Bear - zerom13 , posted 06/15/07

This guy fucking sucks
Seriously, this guy comes off as a total douche in my opinion.. not survival advice for the average person.. survival penis wagger..
Les Stroud is WAY more down to earth, hardcore and versatile, in my opinion..and aanyone can follow his advice..unlike Bear or whatever his name is..who likes to shimmy up 60ft rock faces after he has trapped himself in a god damn valley full of 40 degree water...

PLUS this guy fucking has a camera crew following him around, les stroud does all his own camera work and is limited to only a couple items...which usually doesn't include water or a waterbottle.

so...yeah
check out survivorman. - Zoopy! , posted 05/08/07

"Man vs. Wild" on Discovery Channel
I don't do reviews often, but i saw this show this last weekend and was truly impressed, you should check it out.

A survivalist is dropped into the middle of no where, and spends the whole episode trying to find civilization. I saw an episode where he was dropped 2 miles from a deserted south pacific island, one where he was dropped onto a high peak in the alps, and one where he was left on a glacier in alaska.

This guy is hardcore, yet personable, and really knows whats up. Truly inspiring that with enough knowledge, knowledge most of us have completely forgotten, you can live just about anywhere.
