Moss Street market
Moss Street Market is open every Saturday from May untill October 14'th(farmers only day). You'll find seasonal fruits and vegetables, bedding plants,baked goods, preserves, crafts, photography, etc. It's located at Sir James Douglas School on Moss Street between Fairfield and Thurlow.
Today was Green Technology Day with a few information booths. The GWEV(electric bike) booth was a highlight. In the centre of the market local music acts play throughout the day. You can start your day at the information booth where you'll find Saltspring Island coffee for just $1.25. Also enjoy a half dozen donuts from Donut Queen's, or a wild salmon burger followed by Elk Lake Organic Fruit Farms popular kiwi sorbet or asian pears. Getting your treats for home there fresh curds from Natural Pastures Cheese, John A. McDonalds purehoney -choose from blackberry, salal,fireweed, or chestnut blossom. Shawnigan Lakes Future thinking Condiments where you'll find superb chutneys, and a ginger zuccini marmalade. Albert has his Original Apricot Butter also.
For fresh produce be sure to visit Carolyn's Organic Garlic the Spanish roja and California Silverskins are both standouts. Cornucopia Nursery(urban edibles) has desert king figs, red currants, elderberries, autumn olives and pinot noir grapes. There are apples everywhere but you'll have to choose from Liberty, Kings, Red Gravenstein, Calville rouge d'autumn,burgundy(New YorK '74), or Sunrise(Summerland'91) among others. There is also Reiki or chair massage from 5 min. to one half our sessions with prices up to $30. Get some great pure natural soaps and some dog biscuits. Stop by the B.C.Kelp kiosk www.bckelp.com. If you're still wanting some more to lunch on stop by the International Woman's Catering Co-Op for some Uromian rice ,Empanadas, or Burak Pastries.
