It has it's pros and cons...
I just killed my page on MySpace after being on there for a year. I got on initially because I'm a DJ on an internet radio station, so it was an easy way to communicate with the bands and promote the station. I stayed on because I started doing work with an entertainment lawyer and it was a great tool for marketing his services. If you're in the music/film industry, it's great for networking and free advertising. But it constanly had problems/errors and it was a hackers dream. I think it got too big for it's britches. When I started in Nov '05 there were 32 million members, as of a few days ago it was something like 129 million! So of course something that huge is going to have it's issues. And what started as a tool for musicians and artists to get their work out there turned into this corporate monster with endless advertising and spam, along with the porn bots, and the equivalent of online telemarketers. And it is a pedophiles dream, I was blown away by the naive 13 year olds who posted near pornographic pictures and talked to 40-something men. Actually about 50% of the females on there had semi-pornographic to full blown raunchy shit on there.
Tribe is a different animal. It's much more laid back in my opinion. I don't get the information and sensory overload that I got on MySpace. I could do without the hundreds of 50-somethings posting pics of their schlongs or saggy tittties, but to each their own. I like the tribes on here and feel that they contain more intelligent and helpful conversation and information than a lot of the groups on MySpace. So in conclusion, I like tribe, and I will stay on here. I feel like leaving MySpace was a form of detox! But tribe will never touch MySpace's marketing potential and that is what I miss, not being able to interact with as many people and certainly not any bands. It's kind of, for lack of a better word boring, comparatively speaking, but for now that is a good thing for me! I think tribe is definitely geared towards an older audience and since I am closer to 30 than 18, I feel more comfortable here!
