This new site is creating a forum where people can really teach other Chasidishe style and depth without Ortho- or male-dominance or the theological weight of a particular kind of practice. Because: why should the fire and sweet song of Chasidus only be accessible to people inside the community? Spreading the song and sharing the fire is what it's about - and the Baal Shem Tov said so himself in his dream ascent to meet the Messiah. (Actually the "soul of the Messiah" told him this!) I got it started when I realized it had been ten years since the first Chasidic Egalitarian minyan took place in New York City. That minyan was an extraordinary cross-section of folks from Yeshiva-Orthodox to Reform rabbis to everything funky, spirited, and hopeful about crossing the boundaries between Jews and between people. NeoHasid.org aspires to the same trans- (as in trans-denominational gender-mixing, theology bending, and trance-state) type of community online. - Duvid , posted 11/28/05 |
