NIkon Coolpix
After 10 years of photographing California & a lot of the western US, my first & only digital camera is on it's last leg. Not that it hasn't served me well (very well indeed) but the CCD is now failing on the dark end of colors. The internal CCD has been replaced once by Nikon & I have had it serviced 3 times for various things (most under warranty), but the fact that I got so many years of great images from this one means I will be buying another NIKON for my next digital camera. Now-a-days there are way too many to choose from & I hafta start searching soon. - danamite , posted 05/04/07

Slow auto focus
I own a Coolpix 7900 and I find the selective focus annoying and the autofocus painfully slow. It turns out nice pictures when you manage to get a good shot, though. - Reet , posted 05/25/06

Nikon Coolpix cameras
I've used a couple of the Nikon Coolpix cameras and love them. They are very easy to use as a point-and-shoot, but as you move to the higher end ones have a decent amount of control if you choose to use manual settings. There are several in the price range you mentioned. The best thing to do, though, is to go to a camera store and handle the ones that interest you. See how they feel in your hands and whether the position of various buttons makes sense to you. - Brie , posted 02/19/05
