Gina Gershon's best yet!
I can't help but compare Prey
for Rock & Roll to Light of Day.
Light of Day was a movie I really
shoulda liked. After all, it was
directed by Paul Schrader and
starred Joan Jett. It was just
too cliched and melodramatic
for me. Yeah, this film has
plenty of cliches and melodrama,
but it rings a lot truer to me.
Gina Gershon (it's no secret that
She's my all-time favorite
Actress) stars as Jacki, the bi
(not that it matters since her love
of rock n roll always takes priority)
tattoo artist leader of the Clam
Dandys. The Clam Dandys are no Josie
& the Pussycats. They're not dreaming
of the superstardom that's eluded them.
They just want a decent indie deal and
The chance to open for X (yay!).
Gina's performance is her best yet.
It's also very close to her own reality:
she's someone who deserves to be a
bigger star than she is and she's held
back by a youth obsessed media culture.
The rest of the band (Shelly Cole, the
always cool Lori Petty, and Drea de Matteo)
are all believable. The one who surprised
me was Marc Blucas (as Shelly Cole's ex-
con brother). I was expecting him to suck,
because I hated him on Buffy, but he's
actually good here. The songs are great
(I do recommend the soundtrack). If that's
not enough, Texas Terri's in it too! - Evil Larry , posted 06/08/05
