A total trainwreck
You should thank me-- I saw this trainwreck of a movie so that you don't have to.
Imagine, if you will, a Phantom who can't sing. No, really. He can't. Gerald Butler certainly has many talents, but carrying a tune beautifully is not among them. By way of contrast, Emmy Rossum makes a delightful Christine, and she sings beautifully.
The rest of the cast is largely unremarkable.
The Masquerade number is exceedingly well-executed. Many of the movie's visuals are stunning. The story is choppy and convoluted, and even more belabored than the stage version.
Don't make my suffering count for nothing-- give this one a pass.
