Too much drama, not enough suspense
I love a good thriller. However, I like it better when I don't figure out the plot within the first few minutes of the film. Red Eye, unfortunately, spills its beans in the opening credits.

Perhaps the less astute can gleen the plot from the information provided. However, I knew immediately what the deal was. Watching it unfold was interesting, but not quite great thriller material.

The movie takes place in three acts for the most part. The first being character introductions. Lisa Reisert (Rachel McAdams) is travelling home to Miami from Texas where she attended her grandmother's funeral. She meets a guy (Jackson Rippner played by Cillian Murphy) in line at the airport, then again has a drink with him, then, amazingly, ends up sitting next to him on the plane (unbelievable already).

After a turbulent take off, the second act begins. Jackson explains the plot device. A twisted plan to assasinate a Homeland Security official staying in a hotel she manages in Miami. The criminals will kill her father if she doesn't move the Homeland Security official to a less secure room in her hotel.

What follows are attempts by Lisa to inform someone, anyone, on the plane that she is in trouble and in need of help. She succeeds in escaping his grip in the end.

The final act of the movie takes place on land, in Miami. Lisa escapes the grip of her virtual captor and rises to victory. I won't spoil the ending but, I felt, the last part of the film (the non-in-flight suspense the best).

All in all, a decent flick to go see, nothing great, nothing horrible. - devil.boy™ , posted 09/02/05
