An excellent, empowering book for women
Don't be confused by the cover or title - Sexy Witch is not a primer for love spells, nor is it a pagan "tantra" manual. What it is is a well written, candid, politically and sexually empowered guide for women. Using tools often found in personal growth work such as journaling and art, along with some more common to spiritual practice, including altar work, guided visualization, mantras and ritual, Firefox takes the participant on a ride through the deconstruction and then reconstruction of body/sense/sex beliefs, feelings and actions.

The book is divided into 7 segments which can be worked alone or in a group. Sections cover topics such as media and body image, gender, masturbation, menstruation, the senses, the vulva, and more. It's feminism at it's best - intellectually aware of women's past and current social issues, while totally rooted in transformation at a body level. The work is all about empowering every woman to be sexual, aware, powerful and divine. And on top of that, it's pretty fun to read, too.

It is not, thankfully, another beginner's magical textbook, though she does cover enough of the basics so that if you have no previous experience in spellwork, you will still have no problems completing the rituals. The book is full of resources, fascinating factoids, info on mentors both historical and current, and even poetry.

If I have any criticism, it's that it doesn't cover menopause as a subject. Since she is not menopausal herself, this is not surprising - Firefox speaks from her own experiences as much as from research. I'd say its intended audience is women in their late teens to 30's. As a slightly older woman starting to think about "the change", I really hope she covers that topic in her next book!

LaSara Firefox knows her stuff, she's done the research and the personal work, and it shows. I highly recommend this book to all women who want to tranform their attitudes and actions regarding body and sex. And THEN do that love spell.... - Sunny , posted 11/04/05
