Slichter Dishes the S**t
As the oldest (and probably most articulate) member of Semisonic, best known for their 1998 anthem "Closing Time," Slichter entered the music business with a keener eye for observation than most.

Fortunately for us music lovers and part-time cultural anthropologists, he was smart enough to either stay sober through most of it or write it all down.

This is the first memoir I've seen that accurately describes the big-picture process without neglecting the anecdotal elements that move the chronology along.

Also present is a revealing, sartorial perception of music industry motivation and mortality. In a business that's historically intermittent, Slichter is innately aware you're always just a few moves away from being jumped off the chess board - and he knows his stewards know too, which is why his A&R charges are just trying to live off their expense accounts as long as they can.

A rapid read. Highly recommended. - Patrick , posted 10/16/04
