The best star trek movie
Star trek Insurrection offers a more meaty story line than any other Star Trek: the Next Generation movie. Insurrection brings inthe real world struggle of having to deal with unsavory people to get at what is desired and the ethical decision of whether one is willing to give up normal rules to gain an extraordinary prize. Another concept the fil wrestles with is the idea of a forced relocation of a small group of peoploe to satisfy the needs/desires of a larger group. This harkens back to Star Trek he original series where Spock expressed a Vulcan utilitarian ethics that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one. This movie reaffirms Kirk's counter that sometimes the needs of the one are more important.
Insurrection involves many more characters in more depth than Star trek: generations and does not have that gimmicky aftertaste. Insurrection also compares favorably to Star Trek: Nemesis. Nemesis, while it retains the major characters of the TV series devolves into an action movie with little real story line. This is not so with Insurrection. Insurrection does not transgress previous ideas like Star Trek: First Contact. There is no fundamental change in known species like the addition of a Borg queen for First Contact.
Star Trek: Insurrection includes humor, action, love stories, and ethical dilemmas along with a hefty dose of future technology not to mention quite a few quips and pithy quotes. I reccomend it as a worthy entry point for those who have no Star Trek experience and a nice addition to the tradition for those who are steeped in Star trek. - Josie , posted 10/08/06
