Wonderful Documentary
These films offer a bold, eye opening prospective on the current political landscape of both the Middle East, and the West. Taking the viewer step by step through the people and events that sparked both the American Neoconservative movement, and the radical Muslim uprisings of the past several decades.
It does omit a few of the key stepping stones used by both neoconservatives, and Islamic extremists on their path to prominence. It focuses more on the symbiotic parallel relationship between these seemingly diametrically opposed ideological movements, and discusses why they need each other.

Note that this is NOT a conspiracy film. It is surely left leaning, but it manages to be rarely over bearing.

Check it out when you get a chance. It is three 50min films. You can watch them all for free on Google video. - Still , posted 03/08/07

well meaning but flawed
In general this a really well made, and thought out documentary which blows away numerous myths about the neo-cons, Al Qaeda and the War on Terror (pt 2). It's very well shot and edited, and uses a wealth of good quality archival footage to convey a well structured and consistent argument.

However, it's presentation of the neo-cons as a drastic paradigmatic break from previous US foreign policy is naive at best and anti-historical at worst. The Power of Nightmares conveniently omits any mention of the 1st US led war on terror in the 1980's, and the historical connections between the campaigns against Nicaragua, Guatemala, Grenada, Haiti, Cuba etc and Bush jnr's policy in the Middle East in the 21st century.

Its well worth watching, and raises a number of interesting questions... But its lack of histroical perspective on geopolitical issues is highly problematic. - Sy , posted 03/08/07

The Power of Nightmares (and Neocon lies)
The BBC's amazing documentary, "The Power of Nightmares", is screening at Cannes -- possibly repeating the "Fahrenheit 9/11" truthquake that was unleashed there last year.

UK film at Cannes says terror fears exaggerated

If you haven't seen it or read about it yet, the Power of Nightmares looks at the way the Neocons have hyped the terror threat as a means of control and bolstering governmental authority. Most interestingly, it traces the contemporaneous development of the Neocon and Islamicist movements in parallel, showing how they both grew out of identical anxieties about the increasing decadance of their respective societies.

It also goes into great detail about how the same Neocons exploiting the terror threat today (Cheney, Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz) falsified and exaggerated the Soviet threat in the '70s for the same ideological reasons. That parallels are staggering.

Here's a link where you can watch all three parts. The video quality sucks, but the documentary quality is great:

Please forward these links widely. Americans need to see this documentary. Write to the news media and tell them to cover it. Email HBO and tell them to show it. Email Michael Moore and tell him to put some of that Fahrenheit cash behind distributing it in theaters.

This is the single best examination of what is being done to our country, by whom and why. Watch it, forward it, talk about it. - Tinker , posted 05/15/05
