Need music for a Katrina Benefit?
Last night the die (as in dicewalk) took my wife and I to have pre-dinner manhattans at the Boom Boom Room at the corner of Geary and Fillmore in San Francisco. The manhattans were really good, if served in a wine glass. But what was even better was the band that was on stage, teaching each other riffs and doing sound checks. It was "New Orleans Funk" performed by seriously good musicians, especially the tuba player, who was apparently the anchor of the band. I didn't know you could do stuff like that on a tuba!

After they were done, we chatted with two of them ~ Kirk the tuba player, and Chris the guitarist. We found out that they are refugees from New Orleans, and they are stuck here for the time being, looking for gigs, connections, and generally a new life.

It occurs to me that these guys would be highly desirable for any sort of benefit that anyone is arranging. I didn't get contact information for them, but I bet if you ask after them at the Boom Boom Room, you'll find them.

Please forward this to any Katrina Benefit organizers you know. Let's put these guys to work!
