taking an idea and running with it!!
considering founder Dave and wife Jennie took a little idea for a t shirt and ran with it, i think they've done pretty well for themselves... great customer service and fun fun shirts...

Most obnoxious intro page music for over-hyped t-shirts.
WARNING: Turn your speakers down or off before going to Vanderkitten's site!
Funnily enough, the obnoxious music is ONLY on the intro page. Once into the site, things get quiet.
One of the premier rules of good web design: Don't force music on your audience...

This site promises a lot, but delivers very little. The claim of being "a lifestyle (comma needed), blending feminity with beauty, strength (comma needed), and poise" is really overreaching for simple t-shirts, a track jacket, and trucker hats...
The claim to feature "today's hottest cuts, styles (comma needed), and designs" is equally misleading, as t-shirts haven't really changed all that much in many years.
Although the choice of 7 different designs on your t-shirt offers a full week of stylistic variety, it's still just a ubiquitous t-shirt...And, I'm sorry, but a t-shirt does not blend femininity with beauty, strength, and poise. It's just a t-shirt.

The "Accessories" button is dead, as is the "Next Page" button on the t-shirts page.
The site's camoflage color scheme clashes terribly with the photos, and further masculinizes this site away from femininity, beauty, or poise.

The overall impression of this site is that the
"ass kicking" is only of the type found in back-country watering holes by the types of women who can spit tobacco or consider hunting from a pickup truck to be a night on the town.

Overall, Vanderkitten's goals are lofty, but the delivery is far short of the mark. Perhaps when Vanderkitten has a better variety of items to offer, or if they re-evaluate the impact that a t-shirt has on a woman's ability to "kick ass" in anything but the most literal interpretation, they might better attract the young, feisty, attitude driven buyers they seek.

fun clothing!
if you havn't checked them out by now you are seriously missing out!

~~~~~~~~i am adding to my review and update from Vanderkitten~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As many of your have noticed, we haven't been around for a while. Sales are exponentially up, retailers have come and gone, and come again, and a new crop of Vanderkittens have joined you! So much has been going on, I don't even know where to begin?
In late 2006-2007, we came to the call of Didi Lawrence, professional skier who was critically injured 4 years ago on her quest to become sober from a drug and alcohol addiction. Didi had the dream of skiing in Nepal on mountains never skied before... 4 years earlier she was told she would never be able to walk again!
We latched onto this cause and raised a large part of $11,000 for her to make this trip. It was a magical journey and a great friendship has formed. She achieved her dream, and the "ubiquitous brand" that has been DOING and BEING, once again came through. We raised $2,000 from sales through our web store alone, and Jennie and I personally contributed even more. We are working with Didi on speaking engagements, TV appearances, and just sharing stories and guiding thoughts.
We've also been sponsoring a number of women in the cycling arena. We put up thousands of dollars in prizes and sponsorship monies last season for events, races and causes that define women who kick ass. Don't forget about our ongoing relationships with Divasonic, other DJ's and musicians, as well as promoting and showcasing artists from all over the US.
Infact, we've been SO busy, we haven't had the time to tell anyone about it! No PR blitz, no media hype, just good old fashioned "DO".
I have seem some reviews on the web that suggest we are a flash in the pan, or a hollow brand. I think back to February 2005 when we put in the order for our first run of T's and the goals I set for 5 years. Here we are, 2 years later, and we have surpassed all of our expectations! We did it with the belief, support and encouragement of everyone in this tribe, on our MySpace pages, right down to the guy printing our shirts. You have helped create this new type of business that walks first, and talks second. A kind of business that is driven by spirit over bottom line.
In 2007 we have taken on more people to help Vanderkitten grow, and become even more successful. Our pace is furious, and we don't really care about being the cool, underground thing anymore because we have much more impact globally than locally! In fact, for every T we sell to someone in the bay area, we sell 50 elsewhere.
In 2 months the Vanderkitten Foundation will open. This is a charitable organization spearheaded by Jennie that will provide outreach, exposure, assistance, guidance, training and coaching for women all over the world. We have some incredible corporate partners signing on and we are excited to invite you to as well.
That's the overview, plus a bunch of exciting new designs and products on the web store! Show your support today, and know we are fighting the good fight, day in and day out!!
Love and Thanks,
