great ambient meditative grooves
this 2 disc cd has many exclusive tracks from a lot of familuar psybient artists, like electrypnose and Kick bong, Capsula, Unstable Elements, Ovnimoon, also features some great tracks by Chronos, an epic track by Khooman, and even some great songs from some newer artists that make ground on this offering!! this compilation is split into two discs, one representing the more chilled ambience of the style and the other of more dance groove oriented!! disc 1 the first two songs dont really do it to me, the first one by Relapxych.00 is beatless with some spacey sounds, maybe great for nasa or waiting in line at space mountain , and the 2nd one is bit mild track with nice arped granulized effects and some trippy blurred vocals then slowly into a trance 4/4 beat about 100 bpms , a perfect one to spark a bowl too before
track 3, the Electrypnose track comes in and its all smooth sailing, this one being a real 7 minute chilled bliss track with some vocals over a real melodic beat and some granulized reverb effects and psytones! a nice healing effect comes into motion with the mood of this track!!
track 4 - Ovnimoon shines for us on this as Magical Visions track, another artist like Electrypnose in which production ranges from trance to chilled ambient grooves!! this one a nice ethnic feel as the vocals kick in, a perfect track for the hookah lounge etiquette!! some squelchy noises and nice string sounds, the song picks up with melodic overtones and then after 5 secs the beat kicks in with oud/guitar backwards and forward sounds and nice melodic ambient undertones!! opium den theme song right here i could imagine!!
track 5 - A-kara - this is frist time listening to this particular artist, and with the name of evil shamans, i would think this is some dark psy trance, anyways the songs starts out with nice ambient and heartbeat like sound as the rhythm, and nice breathing sounds like some dungeon with dragons being locked up in cages and a few flying over as well gives me the whole setting and feel of this song then a breakdown and sample of someone talking in a german or something, and then it goes beatless for a sec and some more samples kick in then, the beat comes back in like the heartbeat style reminds me of some train on a course making a stop, overall great chilled track and a nice positive feel!!
the next track 6, Dhakara being the khooman track starts out with nice ambience, a long intro for a good minute half then dubby bassline slowly creeps in, i really am a sucker for these dubby basslines, and then the beat kicks in with some laser sounding kicks!! and nice harpsichord melodic sounding melody and some elctronic congos layered in, and then a minor break down and then a nice heart of the song kicks in reminiscent of some phuture primitive stylings that of some tribal ayuahauscan dub stylings which is nice!! then another breakdown at about 4minutes left and some minor echo come in of an eldar voice and then some harmonic vocals kick in and then the sorta tribal vocals real subtle overall a ten minute song kick it up +5 and it will be a great one to groove to!!
track 7
Xerxes comes through on this compilation here recently finding some songs from the khavi collective website which are great, this one a real slow ambient beat rides in a nice chillled one great for yoga, real subtle melodies, you can really feel the breeze come in on this one!!
track 8
this one not too fond of, has some wierd talking in it , could be better without them, other than that sounds real chilled ambient trance like, pretty nice, just the vocals dont do it for me
track 9
grains of sand is another artist im not too familuar with and the Meridian track is real nice chilled, great one to let the incense drift on this one , some ethnic sounds, and nice suspense to it!!
track 10
disc 1 closes with a track by Chronos, the album he released is so great, so i was eager to hear this one on here, total different feel here with the ethnic sounds going, nice oud to start out the song and fat acidic sounds dripping with some transformed vocal elder ayuahauscan style chants really nice, with some nice tabla scat vocal style added really a nice surprise and a bit different from what he offers on his album!! fusing mediteranean and indian sounds is real great to hear with nice ambient skitterish, some of that reminiscent of Eastern Sun, def the best cut on the first disc, and they saved the last track for it for a chill disc, this one def will get the casbah shaking for some reason i would believe!! between the two tracks spiral clouds seems the better of the two
songs Chronos offers on this compilation!!
so now we go to disc 2 , this disc is more oriented with dance grooves
track 1
intro track with unstable elements starting it off real ambient , this is like it says an intro
so suspense bulidng with this 2 minute track
track 2
a nice great one from Capsula coming from Israel, seeing him rock it in SF and LA area is great to hear a track by him on here!! starts out real chilled with melodic guitarish sounding instrument then beat kicks in, lots of nice skitterish sounds , and groovy bassline, overall a midtempo tracks warms it up for this disc!!
track 3
Chronos comes with another song on this compilation, this time on the more dance oriented side!! groovey psy bassline with more of chilled breakbeat, nice melodies, great track!!
track 4
Kane and echoside starts out the song with reverbed congo beat and picks up into the sorta ayahauscan style groove, not a bad track
track 5
kick bongs come along, prob one of my favorite tracks on the album a perfect compliment to his latest album released on Cosmic Leaf, nice harsh whispered harmonic vocals, 2 different vocalists on this one seems like, or maybe sampled vocals and one live singer, i like the melodic piano sound in this one, reminds me of the 78th floor of the shinra bulidng in the video game final fantasy 7, and then the nice guitarish synth comes in real mildish showgazing style
track 6
by Dagas entiteld Green Moss
this one got a nice groove to it, and sounds like some Outersect style synths sorta mediteranean sounding and nice dubby synth stabs!! kinda funky, drum kit sorta stale though, other than that a nice song
track 7
a track by zoe willings
has a nice groove to it, a little western feel to it, i could picture a great one for the ride up to burning man
track 8
another appearance by Ovnimoon, this time a track with Dagas
this one is like youve arrived at burning man and ready to set your stuff up or something really nice synth sorta harmonica sounding but its not, nice guitar and like technological sounds that somehow remind me of some waterjuice sounds, real nice synths, one of the better songs on the album , has a nice groove to it, basslines are nice , the song breaks down in the middle then it gets crazier, stuff starts happening everywhere, a little slide guitar even! and some samurai sounding Asian oriental feel to it!
track 9
yestegen track with some nice dubby tones really zany track really great one, another favorite, has a synth reminiscent of some androcell, really bluetech sounding feel to it, ajana does a good job finishing up the comps with some great songs, this disc features the last couple some really epic songs
track 10
zoneotura , with a track unreal is reallly great one as well, nice groove to it like some cosmic leaf sounds, and nice sample of a girl explaining something of everything around her becoming unreal, this is a good one to throw in with some of the eat static new album or the entheogenic, has some kalimba or steel drum sounds real mild not too over laring like alot of the steel drum songs you hear,
track 11
and now some birds samples come in and i notice some birds outside chirping as well, which is wierd because it like around midnight!! anyways some synths come in and oh yeah this is the final track by Electrypnose, and comes in real smooth, got some nice tabla skatter style vocals and nice crunk style bassline with nice blutech sounds, really nice!! def the best song on the album real nice harmonic super great!!
overall a super great comp that introduces to some of the sounds coming out through some recognizable artists ans even some new ones breaking some ground, i give it 4 out of 5 becuase not all tracks really do it too me, def overall the good ones outwiegh the bad tracks, and some songs the drum kit could need a little switchup and could really do some of the songs some justice!! def a great alternative to what you would see at the cd store!!
