ALWAYS talk to a supervisor
NEVER try to get anything settled with a front line phone rep... in INDIA of all places.

Verizon has been pretty cool to me. Twice now, I've talked my way out of $250 "over my minute" bills.

Their billing is arbitrary. You must talk to someone who a) gives a shit and b) can do something about it.

They want your continued business. These companies can be negotiated with.

Verizon seems to understand this, yet no company is perfect. I also like Verizon because of their extensive range of service and very little roaming area. - !@#*Timmy!@#()* , posted 09/16/04
service and reception (mostly around SF) has been best with Verizon.
Within our household, we've had Verizon, Cingular, AT&T, and Sprint, and service and reception (mostly around SF) has been best with Verizon.

Yes, if you rarely use your phone, consider getting a prepay plan. - Dan , posted 07/02/04
I would have to say verizon has done me well for the most part.
I would have to say verizon has done me well for the most part. I still have a grudge against their company when they were called GTE but their wireless division offers great customer service. They have a good selection of phones to choice from, their signal is good just about anywhere(the only place I haven't had a signal is in the desert, which I expected), and the plans are pretty competitive.

I would be leary of AT & T. Heard too many horror stories about their billing and their coverage is pretty weak. - , posted 07/02/04
Look into the prepay plans from Verizon
Look into the prepay plans from Verizon, AT&T, .... When I knew the Verizon plan, you could put as little as $30 in every 2 months and carry over all your unused money. There is a site prepaidcellphoneguide.com which seems to have most of the information and seems pretty unbiased. It is a good place to start. If you use your phone little enough, this will likely be the cheapest way to go. Once you pick a service, see if someone has an old phone which works on that service. Then you can try the service out for next to nothing and if it does not work for you, try something else. Good luck. - Spike! , posted 07/02/04
I like them a lot for 2 reasons
I have Verizon and no tv so I've wholly missed the annoying ad campaign.

I like them a lot for 2 reasons. My phone has good reception everywhere I go except in the BART tunnel, this includes all areas of the Mission, Bernal, Dogpatch, Downtown in buildings and up yo mommas ass.

Also, when I went to the Verizon store the sales guy sold me on the cheapest phone because it had what I wanted (loud, long battery life, incessant voice mail notifications for work, email) for $20, not the hard sell on the $300 phone.

Cingular didn't ring at my house in the Mission when I was on call and I took a hit on my bonus because of it.

:(

I also hear good things about TMobile (Deutsche Telecom) - Sean , posted 07/02/04

Very fond of Verizon - only a couple of dead zones
Tj I'm very fond of Verizon. There are one or two places I have trouble getting signal- Tim's room is one of them- but not your or Steve's or the front or the back- Tim's room and part of O'Shaughnessy are my only dead zones. - kat - Kat , posted 01/30/04
Best coverage - no dropped calls.
I have Verizon which has the best coverage in the bay area, santa cruz, nationwide you name it. I haven't had a dropped call yet. I pay 39.99 a month for 400 anytime minutes. If you call users that are also on verzion wirless then you get mobile to mobile minutes as well.

Yes AT&T and Sprint have cuter phones but Verizon has some nice ones as well. The coverage is what counts though right?

Also, if you use Sprint and travel highway 17 or parts of santa cruz, rest assured that you will lose your class. My b/f, who lives in santa cruz, used Sprint for two years and had crappy service. He finally switched to Verizon and hasn't had any problems since. - Violet , posted 01/30/04
They've really improved over the past year
just stay far away from Virgin, Metro PCS and T-mobile. Their networks might as well not exist with the poor quality of service.

i have to second the verizon recommendation. just over a year ago you wouldn't have gotten that recommendation from me, but they've really improved. - greg , posted 01/29/04
Best coverage, although the phones are boring
Sprint and AT&T have the best fones..

AT&T has the worst digital network ever..

Verizon has the best coverage, throughout the US as well as California, but their phones are really boring.

The only reason I keep my Verizon phone is because it consistently has the best reception in all the offices I travel to. The exception to this is the one HUGE industrial sized Nextel one of my co-workers has. Its this non folding armored monstrosity, but it works well. - The Rodg Mahal , posted 01/29/04

Great customer service
No provier will give you 100% coverage everywhere. You need to go with someone that coverage where you need it at a price you want to pay. I user Nextel and I love them compared to the others. I tried Verizon and AT&T for extended periods and they were no better and worse in some areas. If your looking for cell only and great customer service, Verizon is at the top of the heap. - Unsubscribed , posted 01/13/04
I would definitely go with Verizon Wireless.
I would definitely go with Verizon Wireless. I live in L.A. and uses VZW but I know it's the best provider up in Bay area as well if you don't mind paying a lil more. VZW has has the best coverage overall and CDMA is definitely the way to go with wireless phone :)

send me a msg if you have more questions
