Mortally spammed?
The value of Craigslists seems to depend upon where you live and when you first used it. San Francisco was and is still great, but as Craigslist expanded across the country, it became more ordinary. One friend posted a review, and likes it for its simple look, simple HTML, and freedom from ads (but not from spam). Is that all we've come to expect?

In Rochester, the events and listings are full of spam, and not enough people here flag them for removal. Maybe i expected too much. Now, i merely scan its feeds for headings of interest. I grew tired of all its flagged listings littering my browser history. - John , posted 03/11/06

worked once again, this time selling my car
posted my car on tribe, paid for the deluxe auto trader ad. As per usual, it was craigslist that came through. That free ad generated 95% of responses and matched me with a great buyer. - ferocious , posted 01/18/06

Not the best place to met people but fun to read.
When I moved to SNJ I didn't know a soul. An online friend suggested I post an ad under platonic. I did, I had lots of replies but only one turned into a friendship. Most of the replies were from married guys looking to get laid. Since that didn't work I changed my ad to straight women looking for gay male friends. I still had married guys looking to get laid. My ad caught the attention of a reporter for Courier Post. He did a little interview with me and included my quotes in the article. The Best of Craig List is a time waster but fun. - Miss J , posted 01/03/06

C/L gets it done
I lease apartments .. almost exclusively through craigslist. The ability to insert html directly into ad text--including links to external web pages--greatly enhances my postings.

The categories are extensive, the layout simple and functional. As far as I can tell the eBay participation has sparked some useful programming, such as my posting account, with instant reposting of standard ads.

Jerks, spammers and scammers? Sure there are. I call out my "flagging posse", although I am often gratified to discover the C/L community has already taken care of the problem with "three strikes and you're out" automated flagging. - Glen , posted 11/20/05

Lately
I check it in the mornings for a "missed connection" (for me) - and the Rant and Rave section. I check that stuff for fun, but lately it's very negitive.

I recently found Tribe... and I feel like Tribe is more suited for me. I'll keep looking at it - the energy needs to improve on Craig's List - Unsubscribed , posted 08/12/05

Be careful
There are a lot of con-artists trolling craigslist looking for suckers. A friend of mine Lost $5k in a housing scam a little while back involving a house listed here. Remember, nobody on this list has to register or verify their identity or credentials in any way in order to list something. double check and be paranoid when dealing with free services like these. - Beyonder , posted 07/18/05

great place!
I personally think that this is a great site!! I am looking for a job and there are so many places that advertise here that don't advertise anywhere else...it's been a real helpful tool!!! I also use it for other things...which it is also great for! - Deborah , posted 06/21/05

I love this place
Just make sure that you go to the .ORG and not the .COM. I hate when people buy up websites that are close to others just to get hits. I love searching through this place to find any sort of random items. & you can search in your neck of the woods. thats great too. - DoJe , posted 06/17/05

great site
I've found quite a few jobs through craigslist and find the site very helpful. As any other website that becomes popular there are jerks and idiots who post on the site, but they are easily ignored. It is a very good site for resources. - Unsubscribed , posted 06/13/05

SF BAY LOVES IT!
I currently live in the SF Bay area and am moving to Chattanooga and I am going to go through withdrawal from craigslist. Here in the Bay area it is where EVERYONE goes for just about anything you can think of that you might need or want to get rid of . . . jobs, people, things, cars, place to live, on and on and on . . . I wish all the other places used it as much as we do here . . . - Unsubscribed , posted 05/27/05

Tribes is CL done RIGHT
I was once a big fan of CL, but it's been overrun by jerks. The flagging/moderating system can't keep up. In many of the forums it's impossible to have a discussion, and a lot of the "for sale" and other posting areas are filled with SPAM.

I think the CL model has just run out of steam. - Bob , posted 05/19/05
