Fair Trade Trick-or-Treat Campaign
Dear Friends,
Our Fair Trade Trick-or-Treat Campaign is really taking off!
Already we are aware of over five hundred households, classrooms,
student groups and churches that will be making the switch to
Fair Trade this Halloween and calling and writing Nestle USA
to encourage them to do the same.
Demand for Fair Trade Trick-or-Treat candy and materials is so
great that we have all we can do just to keep up with the orders.
In fact, we have already distributed over 30,000 postcards to
families across the country and with Halloween drawing ever
closer have nearly exhausted our stocks.
So with only one week to go until Halloween, we're calling upon
all of you to redouble your efforts to promote Fair Trade and
hold the chocolate industry accountable for child labor abuses
on their farms - not just in your homes, but in your broader
communities. Here's some things you can do:
Set Up an Information Table on Your Campus or Town Square
Where do folks gather to show off their Halloween costumes in
your town? Be ready with a stack of Halloween postcards to
Nestle and work the crowd for signatures or table at your church,
school or community event. We have created a printable version
of our Halloween Postcard Kit so you can run off a few hundred
of them and really help your town stick it to Nestle. You can
download and reproduce the flyer from our website at:

Write a Letter to the Editor
Many newspapers will feature articles about local Halloween
events in the run up to the holiday. Now's your chance to
respond and let other folks know of your family's commitment
and your disappointment with the major chocolate companies
for refusing to embrace fair trade as a comprehensive and
proven solution child labor on cocoa farms. For tips on
how to write a letter to the editor and a sample letter to
get you started visit:

Host a Press Event!
We are looking for a few good families to open their homes to
reporters this Halloween and host a photo op or press event about
their families commitment to fair trade and concern about child
labor on cocoa farms. We would particularly like to work with
folks in major cities or in areas surrounding the offices and
factories of the major candy companies. If you feel like your
group our household would fit the bill please email
jamie@globalexchange.org or call 415-575-5538.
And remember to collect as many signed postcards from Trick-or-
Treaters as possible on Halloween. Each two piece postcard
flyer includes one section for Trick-or-Treaters to keep with
their candy and one for them to sign and leave with you to mail
to Nestle. If all five hundred of us can manage to collect
signatures from Trick-or-Treaters for each of the postcard
kits in circulation, that's over 30,000 postcards that Nestle
would receive as a result of the action. No small feat.
Please let us know how many postcards you collect and send in
after the holiday and if you are planning an action with your
group this Halloween. And for you last minute shoppers, there's
still time to order your Fair Trade Trick or Treat Kit. To place
an order call 1-800-505-4410 or visit our online store:

Thanks for all your work!
Sincerely,
