hurricane survivor relief
ok guys, I am appealing to you to please donate what you can to the red cross. please help hurricane survivors who have arrived here in houston. Let me give you the story of what is happening to these people here, let me first tell you about houston: the people in this city look for any way they can to get over on you, take advantage, thieve, etc. to people, especially outsiders who come to this town. People who live here have already heard this from the radio, coworkers, friends. What is happening is that while people are being put up in the astro dome(good), they must arrive on buses driven in or they are being turned away(bad). anyone who drives in themselves is being turned away. the red cross needs help to set up shelters for these people who are very desperate, very hungry and have no hope and nothing left. The price gouging is horrible, motels are charging 3x the regular price and by person. when these people's money runs out, they kick them out of the motel with nowhere to go. there is a task force in place to try to control the gouging but it will take time. the survivors need food, a bathroom, a place to rest. estimations are that these people will remain in houston for 4-6 months before returning to new orleans, alabama, wherever, because it will take that long to get things just barely functioning where they are from. their children will be placed in houston schools for that time period. please donate to the red cross so they can begin their lives again. please forward this to anyone you think would be able to help, even $10.00 helps. thanks! - SpiN , posted 09/01/05
