No differance.
Though I agree that it sucks that big corporate bullies have to swoop evrything cool up, youtube, myspace, tribe, ect...... But the fact is, that if everyone goes and joins this new netowrking site, as soon as it gets big enough some heartless corporation will also offer them money for it, and guess what, they will sell, and then that site will become just like tribe or myspace. Usually the people who start things like this under the disguise that they are somehow better because they have not sold to a corporation, yet, but they will, they just have not been offered the cash yet to sell out, that is a sad fact of our world today, everyone has a price, look no further than your goverment, if they can be bought and sold for a little cash, websites can certainly be bought. So, in essence, joining another site in mass that will just eventually become exactly what you were trying to get away from in 1st place is futile, because everyone sells out at some point. - Unsubscribed , posted 07/26/07

there *is* an alternative
some of our cohorts here at tribe have formed a free, uncensored, non-commercial site www.free-association.net

it's still new but they have made a great start already

check out the association "Tribe Refugees" as a place to start

Take action? Vote with your feet....
What would it take to form an alternative to Tribe that isn't beholden to major corporate interests? It could be bult on open source systems, and include encryption and other basic open technologies to protect privacy as needed.

Are We Know Being Watched & Marketed
It is no small matter that a former exec from three very large corps is now at the helm of Tribe. It is known that such corps take personal information, trade it, annalyse it and use it for capital gain. It is also a fact know that under the Bush Administration, Google and other online providers are giving up personal and non-personal information about their users . Bush and company are also, as we all know, spying on those people with 'ties to terrorist'. But the truth is that anyone who dessents against their overall agenda. The original Tribe community is filled with those who can be considered dessenters--i.e. peace activist, left wing liberal, socialist or a number of other sympathizers who go against the right wing/conservative agenda. Yes tribers, this could mean you. Who knows for what purpose your infomation is being used. Who knows what data bank you might be designated under. Who knows when things might take a turn for the worst--say another attack--and the goverment might ask Tribe for the 411. Who knows--none of us at the moment--but it seems like the seed for such a plant is planted under our bios, listings and organizations. Personally, I wouldn't want any goverment or corporate official knowing any more than they need to know about something as sacred as the Full Moon Gathering and beyond. Discussion is needed and the word about the changes to Tribe must be spread. This is the only way that we can all make a conscious decision about the truth of what is happening to our beloved online community.

Title: Tribe Warning
Courtesy of a friend of mine...

I discovered this little factoid today, which I didn't realize before:

In mid-2005, the former CEO of Tribe.net Marc Pincus, handed over the CEO
position to Jan Gullett. Jan Gullett is a former executive of PEPSI --
AND even worse -- PROCTER & GAMBLE.
I verified it's true -- you can click on the About Tribe.net link and see
their staff list.

Someone posted this link on Tribe with a heading along the lines of "Who
did Tribe sell out to?"

onlinepersonalswatch.typepad.com/n...ml

That says it all.
We all knew the service was on the decline (especially with the vomitous
new interface), but right there is the writing on the wall. The *CEO* of
Tribe.net is a former executive from PEPSI and PROCTER & GAMBLE,
people!!!!!!!!!
Procter & Gamble being one of the worst monstrosity companies ever in
existence, right up there alongside the big pharma companies.
Hmph. :(
One does not hold an executive position for The Beast without it rubbing
off...
