Y'all can keep thinking it sucks, but I've met some really awesome people and blogs on Zaadz! The way the site is organized and arranged doesn't beat Tribe... but it's not a complete wash, either. - amy , posted 08/02/07 |

I noticed that i could use inline CSS and stuff or just copy/paste chunks of other webpages into blogs or 'Podz" Tagging, and the books and quotes features make the FOAF shared, interest, connection, thing very easy. On the other hand there is a creepy passive agressive holier than thou vibe. The positivist mind police are very agressive. And There are not enough bellydancers - ghôti , posted 10/06/06 |

2 days later I change my rating from a 5 to a 2. They sent me an email asking me to join the community discussion forum, using the following line: "Lao Tzu, reminds us that, 'A journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step.' So, how about taking that "first step" of registering a username?!? :)" Kinda cliche and creepy. - Margot , posted 02/10/06 |

Not too sure about this site. Too much like a religion. Can't find the humor or appreciation for absurdity. Eh? we'll see. Don't like how they passive aggressively asked Icky Bob to leave then act all innocent. - Marc

The site sucks. No content except a load of hippy drivel. Icky Bob got booted for "not having the right vibe". Brian needs to be sent invitations to "Shut Up, Hippy". If he's censoring people on his own webiste, what is he doing here? Well, he can't censor us here so be sure to tell him what you think of his strong-arm tactics at Zaadz. This is his retarded tribe trying to use us to market his tripe: tribes.tribe.net/zaadz And here is his profile: people.tribe.net/80af9065-...cf47af9fd5 He's a tool of the lamest order. - Rebecca , posted 02/04/06 |

I'm sickened by the idea of having to sign up, create a profile and familiarize myself with yet another way to waste my time. I have Tribe and various internet pornography sites. I simply do not need yet another vacum for my time. Plus. It's so effing corney. I got laugh at out the "nutrition content label" . Already they need to fire someone. - Mad Jack Kash , posted 02/03/06 |

You don't change the world by starting off with Capitalism. That what got us eyeball deep in shit in the first place. This site seems like corporate shit trying to hide its true nature behind flowerpower cliches. If you're a yuppie in denial then there's a website for you! - George , posted 02/03/06 |

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm a dyed in the wool hippy, but to be 100% honest the real fun of burningman (and that's where Tribe comes from) is the super fucked up shit that you see out of the corner of your eyes and the even more fucked up shit that comes up and sits on your lap and the super duper HARDCORE!!! mutherFuckin(tm) death guild and the blood and the fire and the fact that all this crap is going downhill... not the starry eyed "I'm going to change the word" bullshit. Bleh. You don't change the world by saying "I'm going to change the world", that never works. You change the world by laying plans that go hundreds of years into the future, like the alchemists of the late 1700's, don't cha know...? The greatest beauty in life is the fact that it will end. - Clear , posted 02/02/06 |

Can you give a place negative stars? I haven't seen such a bizarre and repressive place since maybe the mid '80s heyday of Hare Krishnas and the followers of the Baghwan Rajneesh, only zaadz has an even more pallid color scheme. Having said that, they are providing several of us with a reasonably good source of entertainment trying to muster sufficiently enlightened responses to users who question why they deleted somebody immediately for no other offense than posting an image of himself they thought was ugly, and for suggesting they get over themselves a bit. - Shannon

We all love Icky Bob*. He's survived on this site for years. On Zaadz? One day before he was apparently asked to leave. www.zaadz.com/lists/ideas...working_site His post could be construed as somewhat less than constructive (even that's arguable), and the operators have every right to build a new age totalitarian new age regime if that's really what they're after, but do you really want to be a part of it? * Okay, maybe not all, but close enough. - Starchy

Any time I see the word "empowerment," I get a little antsy-like with this here shootin' iron. This site is probably going to end up like every other one of its kind. When first launched, you can smell the patchouli and freedom, and you want to get on the conveyor belt in a big way. But get a few investors to pony up some bucks, and soon your taste of freedom is converted to TOU goons editing out any pix that look pink and pointy, as the "Blog Macht Frei" mentality stretches from sea to shining sea. As Mr. Horse would say, "No sir, I don't like it." - Sluggo , posted 02/02/06 |

... I wish I could write like Loki.... I believe in Seeds but I agree with the smell of fear in the happy dokey hippie writing on the Zceo page.... I bought into a lot of that stuff in the 60s & SF & damn if it doesn't still get me into trouble. A lil balance of truth observance may be needed therezzz Has everyone noticed that if you give a 1star rating that Tribe puts up a 5 star rating anyway?? So uhh brainwashing technique so we all think we're having fun? Is there a government marketing agent behind tribe now??? - Gi Gi , posted 02/02/06 |

... to even look at it. Put too much energy into tribe and now I'm just too resentful to create another frickin profile on another frickin web site. I used to say that tribe was a microcosm of society. Ironic then that it would appear that profit has taken over from free exchange of ideas as the prime mandate. Or maybe that was always the plan.... Will something with such a stupid-sounding name as zaadz save us? I can't see it. And it seems tribe is doomed to uncoolness. So where's the rebel faction? Where's the splinter group? Will the Chicken John of Tribe please stand up? Enjoy your tenuous freedom of thought before some bright zealot figures out a way to censor your head and finally erase all ungodliness from your mind... - Unsubscribed , posted 02/02/06 |

Like many of you, I had recently been trying out zaadz.com in the hopes that, in time, it might prove to be a viable alternative to Tribe. That evaluation came to an abrupt end last night, when my zaadz account WAS SUMMARILY DELETED. No reason was given for this action, nor did I receive any warning. In fact, I am truly at a loss to understand what happened, as I'd hardly made any posts at all on zaadz, none of which were remotely negative or related to any controversial topics. One moment my account worked, the next it was simply gone*, banished, evidently as part of a reactionary purge by zaadz founder (and wanna-be "philosopher") Brian Johnson. I had thus far chosen to withhold judgement on zaadz. While it lacked much of the functionality of Tribe, it had a cleaner, more contemporary design which I found easier to use and more appealing to my eye. I even agreed with some aspects of zaadz's oft-maligned mission statement, which is saying something, given my normally intense aversion to dogma (especially vague, self-contradictory new age dogma). Underneath all the black leather I'm still a hippie at heart, and sympathetic to anyone trying to put more "intention" into their "community". But sadly, after the deletion of "Icky Bob" and his handling of the subsequent hubbub, Brian Johnson has revealed himself as a rank hypocrite whose only message is "Let's change the world... so long as you all agree to do it my way." And just like famed social-networking loser Jonathan Abrams before him, Brian's only response to those who deviate from his vision (or even try to discuss the issue) is to remove them, en masse, from "his site". (On a purely business note, I find it amazing that in 2006 there are still CEO's who have so clearly failed to grasp the lessons of Jonathan Abrams, who, were it not for his early and agressive campaign of top-down meddling with his users, might today have found himself operating a site as popular as MySpace, instead of the increasingly irrelevant Friendster.) Le sigh. Yet another missed opportunity. Another "seed" dead before it sprouted. Another community crippled by its creator's unwillingness to allow room for free expression, dada and dissent. Another progressive out to change the world, but who remains, ultimately, as intolerant of transgression as anyone else beneath the boot of the dominant paradigm. You want to change the world? Then log off and go do it. Do it with every breath, every thought and every action. Do it in the world with a community that understands that both Eros AND Thanatos are equally vital, and that revolutions are ALWAYS messy. I am a world-changer. I am an inspired soul. As are all of my friends. Sadly, zaadz will never get to know any of us due to Brian Johnson's narrow-mindedness and hypocrisy. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- * Currently, when logging in to zaadz, users are confronted with a screen asking them to re-affirm their understanding of (and agreement with) the zaadz mission statement. If they do not wish to do so, the only other choice provided is one that reads "Please de-activate my account." When I logged in last night I agreed to their new conditions (I had mail waiting in my zaadz inbox that I wanted to access, so I had little choice). Despite my agreement my account was deleted about fifteen minutes later. I still have no idea why. - SFSlim , posted 02/07/06 |

I am holding judgment I recall when Tribe, friendster and My space were infants as well.. they all sucked early on.. infants usaly do. Friendster had a crib death, My space became a bratty teen forever and tribe .. well. So I am giving it a chance they have plans the best is to wait and give them a chance Tribe had buggs and issues early on as well. - Gigi-D (DogBite) , posted 02/01/06 |

It's not for everyone. That's what they say on the "coming over from tribe?" page. I guess they anticipated the love (NOT) coming from some of you. So... if you're not into it, don't join. It's so simple. Personally I think it sits somewhere *between* la-la land and despair, but I can see others feel it is squarely in la-la land. Whatever. - Diane , posted 02/01/06 |
